Ex-FX Publicist Charged with Wiretapping

February 07, 2006 (original story...)

Steve Webster, a former publicity executive at the FX cable channel, has been sentenced to three years probation for eavesdropping on more than 100 conference calls at the network after he was let go.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Webster - who has also served in public relations at Universal and at the Game Show Network - was also ordered to pay $22,607 to the Fox Entertainment Group for legal costs. The prosecution had been urging the judge to impose prison time and a psychological evaluation, local reports indicate.

In September, Webster was charged with one count of criminal wiretapping for calling in to FX conference calls after his July 2001 dismissal. He was also reportedly found with a computer from FX that gave him access to company e-mails and confidential business plans.
